Around fifty cars have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Police say they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.
The fluid had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Officers then located many other vandalized cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement say preliminary tests suggest the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to where it came from; authorities are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to solve the incident" and have requested to the community for information.
An important representative stated the attack left him stunned and needed to be solved quickly.
"This act hits the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he wrote on social media, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at residents of migrant background in five years prior.
